Ensuring Fairness

As a public body, we aim to act by consideration of fairness and the principles of equality and diversity. This also applies to the organisations responsible for the implementation and management of medical education and training and must comply with their legal obligations under equality legislation.

Through the QAF we require those responsible for managing and leading medical education and training to ensure fairness and to adhere to principles of equality of opportunity and diversity. We will test how well this is working through each element of the QAF and set requirements for action where organisations are not meeting our standards and will share good practice as we find it. As set out in Theme 2 of Promoting Excellence -Educational governance and leadership, we need to ensure that all educational governance systems are fair and based on principles of equality and diversity. The need for fairness is evident but also brings with it major benefits for patients and the public.
