Regulating doctors, ensuring good medical practice

MyGMC new login process

Press Release

30 Jan 2009

We will be making some changes to the way you log in to MyGMC.

From 8 March 2009, it will be easier to log in to MyGMC.

We have undertaken a security review and considered feedback from users, and have developed a new, secure, more user-friendly log in process.

We have removed the requirement to enter a PIN each time you log in (you will only need it the first time, to activate your account) and we have enhanced the ‘memorable information’.  This will be a memorable word, along with a hint or question that you can choose yourself.

How this will affect you

Current users

If you already use MyGMC, you will no longer need your PIN to log in. You will only need to enter your GMC reference number and your password.

If you have forgotten your password, after 8 March 2009 you will be able to reset your password online using your GMC reference number and your email address (providing it is the one that we have on record).

The first time you log in after 8 March 2009 you will be asked to enter a memorable word and hint or question. This will replace the five questions and answers that you gave when you set up your account. You will need your new memorable word when you want to change your personal details in MyGMC.

New users

If you have never used MyGMC, providing we have your email address, from 8 March 2009 you will be able to request a PIN and password online. You will receive your password by email and, for security reasons, we will send your PIN by post to your registered address.

When you receive your PIN, you will be able to activate your MyGMC account. Once your account has been activated, you will no longer need the PIN and will be able to access MyGMC using your GMC reference number and your password.

The first time you log in after 8 March 2009 you will be asked to enter a memorable word and hint or question. You will need your new memorable word when you want to change your personal details in MyGMC.

Other enhancements

From 8 March 2009 MyGMC will now show key news messages on the home page.
