Regulating doctors, ensuring good medical practice

Applying for Voluntary Erasure

Choosing voluntary erasure means you will not be charged an additional fee if you wish to restore your name to the Register in the future.

You have three months to submit your application from when you start it online. If you have not submitted your application after three months you will have to start a new one. Instructions on setting up your online account are given at the end of this guidance.

You can apply for voluntary erasure in two ways.

You can either:

  • Log in to your GMC Online account and apply online

OR

  • Download a paper application form to complete and send by post.

If you are planning on returning to our Register in the future, we recommend that you make this application online.

A link to GMC Online and a form to download are available at the end of this guidance.
