General Medical Council
Regulating doctors, ensuring good medical practice
We will visit your school at a pre-arranged date at the end of your fourth year or during your fifth year. Your school will notify you of this. See our ID check event timetable (opens in a new window) for scheduled GMC visits.
Your medical school will tell you well in advance when and where the event will be held. They will tell you exactly what you have to do, and give you instructions on how to complete and return an electronic form that will be distributed to you ahead of your event.
At the event you must bring with you two types of photographic identification, either your driving licence, passport or student card issued by your university or medical school.
You can attend an event at another medical school if it is more convenient but you must contact us (opens in a new window) to ensure the appropriate arrangements are made. You can check the ID check event timetable (opens in a new window) to find out where other events are due to be held.
If you cannot attend events at any other medical school please contact us (opens in a new window) to arrange an appointment at our London or Manchester office. Remember that you cannot apply for provisional registration with a licence to practise until we have checked your identity.
For further information on ID check events please see our ID check event FAQs.
