Applying to restore registration with a licence to practise – for doctors who, for administrative reasons, are no longer registered

This page is to help doctors whose status on the Register is currently ‘not registered - administrative reason’* and want to apply to restore their registration with a licence to practise.

If you are restoring to provisional registration please read the important information for holders of provisional registration.

At the end of this guidance you will be given a link to download an application form to complete and an address to send it to.

*You can check your status on the Register by entering your GMC reference number into the List of Registered Medical Practitioners.

Your next steps:

  • Read this guidance (10 pages)
  • Organise your the supporting documentary evidence as detailed in the guidance
  • Download and complete an application form
  • Send your completed application form along with copies of your supporting documentary evidence. You can also send us the supporting documentary evidence as scanned e-mail attachments, however, you will still need to post the application form to us as we need this
  • Visit one of our offices for an identity check
  • Pay the fee
