Applying for Restoration to the Register – for doctors who did not apply for voluntary erasure

This page is to help doctors who:

  • Have previously held registration with the GMC
  • Did not relinquish their previous registration by applying for voluntary erasure

AND

  • Want to apply to restore their registration after:
    • A period spent outside medical practice (for example after retiring from medical practice)

OR

    • A period spent working outside the UK.

At the end of this guidance you will be given a link to download an application form to complete and an address to send it to.

Your steps to restoration

  • Read this guidance (11 pages)
  • Download and complete an application form (for example, if you were erased for failure to pay your fee or not maintaining an effective address)
  • Send your completed application form along with copies of your supporting documentary evidence and your fee by post
  • Visit one of our offices for an identity check
