Applying for Restoration to the Register – for doctors who did not apply for voluntary erasure
This page is to help doctors who:
- Have previously held registration with the GMC
- Did not relinquish their previous registration by applying for voluntary erasure
AND
- Want to apply to restore their registration after:
- A period spent outside medical practice (for example after retiring from medical practice)
OR
- A period spent working outside the UK.
If you are seeking to restore your registration for any other reason you should contact us
(opens in a new window).
At the end of this guidance you will be given a link to download an application form to complete and an address to send it to.
Your steps to restoration

- Download and complete an application form (for example, if you were erased for failure to pay your fee or not maintaining an effective address)
- Send your completed application form along with copies of your supporting documentary evidence and your fee by post
