You must pay a fee to register with the General Medical Council. This page tells you how to pay your initial fee for registration with a licence to practise.

1. How to pay
When you apply online for registration with a licence to practise using GMC Online, you must pay by credit or debit card (Visa, Visa Debit, Visa Electron, MasterCard and Maestro).
If you cannot apply online or pay by credit or debit card, please contact us for advice.
2. How much to pay
With effect from 1 April 2013 the fee for full registration with a licence to practise for those having been provisionally registered or those applying for full registration having recently qualified will be £185. All other applicants for full registration will pay £390.
The fee for provisional registration with a licence to practise will be £90. Further information is set out on our fees page.
3. If you applied before 1 April 2013
If we receive your application before 1 April 2013, the fee for full registration with a licence to practise for those having been provisionally registered or those applying for full registration having recently qualified is £195. In other cases, the fee for full registration with a licence to practise is £390. The fee for provisional registration with a licence to practise is £95.

- 2. Full registration with a licence to practise for doctors who submit their application within two years of passing their overseas medical degree: £195
- 3. Full registration with a licence to practise for UK, International and EEA doctors who qualified more than two years ago: £390

4. If you apply after 1 April 2013
The new fees apply to all applications received after 1 April 2013. If you apply for full registration with a licence to practise having been provisionally registered or having recently qualified you will need to pay £185. All other applicants for full registration will need to pay £390. If you apply for provisional registration with a licence to practise you will need to pay £90.
5. Tax relief and receipts
The GMC is on the list of HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) approved organisations. This means you may be entitled to tax relief on your registration fee. Further information can be found on the HMRC website.
