Hearing information for doctors

Information for doctors whose cases are due to be heard by a fitness to practise panel of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) manages all fitness to practise and interim orders panel hearings for doctors and makes impartial decisions about whether a doctor's fitness to practise is impaired.

The MPTS is part of the General Medical Council (GMC) but is operationally separate and accountable to Parliament.

The MPTS has published a helpful guide for doctors who have been referred to a fitness to practise panel.

There are two versions.

  • You can read the online version (opens a new window which takes you to the MPTS website).
  • You can download a pdf of the booklet (pdf).
