Hearing information for doctors

Information for doctors whose cases are due to be heard by a medical practitioners tribunal of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) manages all medical practitioners and interim orders tribunal hearings for doctors and makes impartial decisions about whether a doctor's fitness to practise is impaired.

The MPTS is part of the General Medical Council (GMC) but is operationally separate and accountable to Parliament.

The MPTS has published a helpful guide for doctors who have been referred to a medical practitioners tribunal.

There are two versions.

  • You can read the online version (opens a new window which takes you to the MPTS website).
  • You can download a pdf of the booklet (pdf).
