Benefits
The General Medical Council offers a comprehensive benefits package to its employees designed to reflect our commitment to rewarding individuals for their contribution.
Salary
We offer competitive starting salaries with additional progression available for exceptional performers. Pay reviews are carried out annually, usually in April.
Holidays
Generous annual holiday entitlement of 25 days per year.
Flexible Working
The General Medical Council recognises the need for employees to have a work life balance and has a Flexible Working Policy in place.
Employees work 35 hours per week flexibly and have the opportunity to earn up to an additional 5 flexi days per year.
Final Salary Pension Scheme
The General Medical Council Staff Superannuation Scheme (the Scheme) provides pension and death benefits for members and their dependants.
The benefits under the Scheme are linked to Salary at the time of leaving so that all benefits keep up with salary increases and career progression.
Details of the scheme are outlined below:
- A pension based on your length of Scheme Service and Salary at retirement
- Contributions are set at 5 percent of salary collected through a salary sacrifice arrangement
- Guaranteed increases to pensions, both in payment and in deferment
- The option to take early retirement benefits
- Ill-health early retirement benefits
- Free life assurance cover of four times your Salary
- A partner's pension on death in service or after retirement
- Children's pensions on death in service or after retirement
- The opportunity to pay Additional Voluntary Contributions
Contracted-out of the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme. The normal retirement age is 65.
Free BMI Health Screens
All GMC staff are eligible for a health screen with BMI Health Services.
Health screens are designed to offer advice on healthy lifestyles and to help identify possible risks. The screen comprises a number of medical tests (all optional) carried out by qualified nurses and medical practitioners.
Screens are completely confidential; no information of any sort is passed on to the GMC.
The GMC pays the full cost of your health screen.
Free Private Medical Insurance
All GMC staff are eligible to join the private medical insurance scheme.
The GMC has opted for AXA PPP's Corporate Health Plan - Cover Level 2.
This is a top of the range plan which includes
- comprehensive cover for in and out patient services;
- a stress counselling service; and
- a health information line.
Previous medical conditions are covered under the scheme.
The GMC will pay the cost of the premium for your private medical insurance.
Free Employee Assistance Programme
An 'employee assistance programme' (EAP), is available to all members of staff and their immediate families, offering confidential counselling and information.
The service is run by a professional and independent EAP provider: AXA PP Employee Support.
Childcare Vouchers Scheme
The GMC is helping employees access a scheme that can reduce the cost of childcare through tax savings and supports our approach to work-life balance.
The scheme ‘Childcare Vouchers Direct' is to be operated on behalf of the GMC by Accor Services and allows the GMC to contribute towards the cost of your childcare.
Interest Free Season Ticket Loans
Employees can apply for an interest free loan to purchase a yearly season ticket from London Transport or a rail or coach company.
You can apply for a season ticket loan at any time of the year and can repay the loan by equal payments on any duration between one and 12 months.
Corporate Gym Membership
The GMC has agreements for discounted membership with Holmes Place (London and Manchester), LA Fitness (London) and GL14 (Manchester).
