Recruitment FAQs

How can I be kept informed of job vacancies at the GMC?

If you are interested in working at the GMC and would like to receive regular vacancy updates, you should register your details with us and then subscribe to receive ‘jobs by email’. You will then receive emails informing you of the vacancies that match your search criteria as and when they arise. You can also unsubscribe at anytime.

How do I apply for a vacancy?

You will normally be asked to complete an application form online together with our equal opportunities monitoring form.   For certain jobs you will be asked to upload your CV and a covering letter. Specific details will be provided for each vacancy.

We would encourage you to apply online, however, if you do not have access to the internet or require a form in a more accessible format, please email Accessrecruitment@gmc-uk.org.

I would like to speak to someone about my application or I have a technical support question?

There is advice on our recruitment website and you can also refer to the guidance notes. If you still have a question you can contact a member of the HR team on 0161 923 6273 between the hours of 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday.

I need some advice on how to fill out the online application form?

Please read the guidance notes carefully. They will provide you with hints and tips on how to complete your application.  No matter whether you are asked to complete an application form or submit a CV, make sure you give some thought to the opportunities on offer and how they match your skills, abilities and experience.

I am a candidate with a disability. Can you accommodate my needs during the application and assessment process?

We are committed to making the recruitment process accessible. This may include application forms in an alternative format or adjustments to the recruitment process such as arrangements during interview or correspondence in a different format. Please indicate any specific requirements in the application form or contact HR on the number below if you require the application form in an alternative format.

Will the GMC apply for a work permit for me?

No.  You will need to have the right to work in the UK or have a valid UK work permit to be considered for a role.  If you are invited to attend a final stage interview, you will be asked to bring documentation to support your right to work in the UK with you.

Will having an unspent conviction prevent me from working at the GMC?

It will not necessarily prevent you but we will need to assess your conviction in relation to the role you have applied for.

Will I be informed if my application is unsuccessful?

Yes.  We will contact you at each stage of the recruitment process to advise you of the outcome of your application. You can also keep up to date with the status of your application by logging onto your profile and viewing your ‘application history’.

I have been unsuccessful can I request feedback?

Yes.  You will be able to receive feedback on your application form at all stages of the recruitment process. This can be requested by emailing recruitment@gmc-uk.org.  You will normally receive a response within two weeks.

After I have made an application what is the next stage of the process?

You will receive an email to confirm receipt of your application.  Your application will then be shortlisted and if it meets our criteria, we will invite you to attend a selection event.

The assessment depends on the role but you may be asked to participate in some of the following: a competency-based interview; psychometric testing, a group discussion, a written test, a case study or a role play. For some roles, there may be a second stage interview.
