Sharing information to protect patients

Through our work, we collect a wealth of information about the medical profession and the organisations where doctors practise and train.

We make this information public on our website. We also share it with a range of other organisations, such as system regulators, with the aid of formal agreements. These agreements are called Memoranda of Understanding (MOU).

The information which we share can include:

• Our monitoring of serious issues which affect the education and training of doctors
• Complaints which we receive about doctors and the outcomes of subsequent investigations we undertake
• The results of our annual survey of doctors in training
• Outcomes of doctors’ revalidation grouped by the organisations they work in
